  • Always Do This Before Sleeping in a Hotel

Hotels are operated by people, and as with any service-oriented industry, human error is an inevitable part of the equation. This means that mistakes can happen, ranging from minor inconveniences to significant issues that can affect your stay. For instance, one common error is the potential for a hotel staff member to mistakenly assign you a room that has already been occupied by another guest. This has happened to us on more than one occasion. Also, while hotels strive to provide a safe and secure environment for their guests, the reality is that you can also find yourself in a vulnerable situation, such as being the target of someone attempting to break into your hotel room. The anonymity of hotel stays can create opportunities for ill-intentioned individuals to exploit, making it essential for guests to remain vigilant about their safety. In light of these concerns, one of the most effective ways to enhance your security while staying in a hotel is to utilize the locking mechanisms available on your room door, specifically the locking latch and deadbolt. Many hotels have both on the doors. Hotel Room Door - Photo: RoadTour.Net The locking latch, often a simple yet effective device, adds an extra layer of security by preventing the door from being opened from the outside, even if the main lock is compromised. It serves as a visual deterrent to would-be intruders, signaling that the room is occupied and secured. Additionally, the deadbolt provides a more robust barrier, as it extends deep into the door frame, making it significantly more difficult for anyone to force entry. By taking the time to engage both the locking latch and the deadbolt, you are taking proactive measures to safeguard your personal belongings and ensure your peace of mind during your stay.

  • So What is the Dutch Bros. Hype About?

Our first visit to Dutch Bros. was a pleasant one, filled with the excitement of trying a new coffee shop that has garnered a significant following in recent years. There were people outside taking orders. They were friendly and answered our drink questions. Despite the enjoyable customer service, we did ourselves questioning the immense hype surrounding this place. We're just being honest. Exterior of a Midwest Dutch Bros. - Photo: © RoadTour.Net We ordered the Golden Eagle, a delightful beverage that features a harmonious blend of caramel and vanilla, served over ice to create a refreshing iced drink. As we took our first sips, we were immediately struck by the smoothness of the drink, with the rich, buttery flavor of caramel perfectly complementing the sweet, creamy notes of vanilla. The drink was indeed delicious, offering a satisfying sweetness that lingered on the palate. However, while the Golden Eagle was enjoyable and certainly a treat, it didn't quite stand out as something uniquely special or innovative compared to what you might find at popular coffee chains like 7 Brew or Starbucks. Both of those establishments are known for their extensive menus of iced beverages, including caramel and vanilla options, which often feature similar flavor profiles and sweetness levels. In essence, while the Golden Eagle was a tasty choice for a quick pick-me-up, it felt more like a familiar classic rather than a groundbreaking creation that would leave a lasting impression. Golden Eagle Drink - Photo: © RoadTour.Net We appreciated the quality of the drinks and the vibrant energy of the space, but despite being enjoyable, the experience didn’t fully match the lofty expectations set by glowing recommendations. Is it just another drive thru drink joint? Sort of. Will we return? Yes. Dutch Bros. Menu Board - Photo: © RoadTour.Net

  • White Castle Review (2026)

To Midwesterners, especially those residing in the Ohio Valley, White Castle is often regarded as just another fast food chain among a myriad of options available in the fast-paced world of quick dining. Its iconic sliders, which have become a staple in the diets of many, evoke a sense of nostalgia and comfort for those who grew up enjoying them. The chain's unique square-shaped burgers, affectionately known as "sliders," have been a part of American fast food culture since the establishment of the first White Castle in 1921. Over the decades, it has developed a loyal following, particularly in the Midwest, where the taste and experience of dining at White Castle are deeply ingrained in local traditions and social gatherings. In recent developments, White Castle has expanded its reach by opening large flagship-style restaurants in vibrant cities such as Orlando and Las Vegas. Outside a White Castle Location - Photo: © RoadTour.Net The customer service in our recent visit was average, which is somewhat disappointing given the potential for a more engaging experience. Are we expecting too much from a fast food employee? No. The demeanor of the cashier was rather lackluster, with minimal smiles and a noticeable absence of enthusiasm. This lack of energy was reflected in their interactions with customers, as they performed their duties without any sense of warmth or genuine interest in providing a memorable experience. There was a distinct feeling that the employees were more focused on completing their tasks quickly rather than ensuring that customers felt valued and appreciated. We have experienced outrageously bad customer service before at White Castle, an experience that was not only disappointing but also frustrating. By investing in their staff and ensuring that customer interactions are positive, White Castle has the potential to transform our past negative experiences into future positive ones. White Castle Slider - Photo: © RoadTour.Net The sliders are of course small, but the bottom of the bun seems always slimy and wet., and the really thin oddly tasting meat tasted oddly dry. The crinkle fries tasted good. It's really not all that great quality of food. But I am willing to bet the food has de-evolved over the years to what it is today. I think White Castle is more of a nostalgia experience than anything truly tasty.

  • Chicken Salad Chick Review (2026)

We have visited Chicken Salad Chick many of times. The customer service has always been outstanding. Whether it's helping us navigate the extensive menu filled with a variety of chicken salad options, offering recommendations based on our preferences, or simply checking in to see if we need anything else, the customer service has always been outstanding. Additionally, the ambiance of Chicken Salad Chick complements the excellent service, with a cozy and inviting decor that makes us feel right at home. Exterior of a Chicken Salad Chick - Photo: © RoadTour.Net Chicken Salad Chick offers a delightful variety of chicken salad options, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences. Each recipe is crafted with care, ensuring that every bite is flavorful and satisfying. Customers have the option to enjoy their chicken salad in several ways—whether paired with crispy crackers that provide a perfect crunch or nestled between slices of fresh bread as a hearty sandwich. This versatility makes it an ideal choice for lunch, a light dinner, or even a picnic treat. Among the many enticing flavors available, Classic Carol stands out as a perennial favorite for many patrons. This particular variety features a delicious blend of chicken, mayonnaise, and seasonings, creating a creamy texture that is both comforting and familiar. Chicken Salad Chick Sandwich Classic Carol - Photo: © RoadTour.Net They need to work on the mac and cheese, which is typically soupy-like and lacks the creamy, cheese-like consistency that many people expect from this classic dish. A truly satisfying mac and cheese should have a rich, velvety sauce that clings to the pasta, providing a comforting mouthfeel with every bite. Currently, the dish seems to be missing essential ingredients or the right preparation techniques that would elevate it to the next level. Mac & Cheese from Chicken Salad Chick - Photo: © RoadTour.Net Overall, we enjoy going to Chicken Salad Chick for lunch. The charming ambiance, combined with the delicious food and excellent service, makes each visit to Chicken Salad Chick a delightful experience that we look forward to time and again. But please work on the Mac & Cheese!

  • The Peach Cobbler Factory Review (2026)

While on an exciting road tour through the scenic landscapes of the southern United States, I stumbled upon a charming store known as The Peach Cobbler Factory. This location was in Northern Mississippi, a region renowned for its rich culinary traditions and warm hospitality. The concept of a store dedicated entirely to peach cobbler struck me as both unique and clever, sparking my curiosity to explore what they had to offer. I felt an irresistible urge to step inside and experience this sweet haven for myself. The customer service I encountered was exceptional, a hallmark of southern charm that made me feel right at home. The cashier, with a warm smile and friendly demeanor. After perusing the menu, I decided to order the original peach cobbler, a classic choice that seemed to embody the essence of the establishment. When my order arrived, I was eager to dig in, and I must say, it was a truly delicious experience. The cobbler was served warm, and the first bite revealed a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The filling was bursting with juicy, ripe peaches that had been perfectly sweetened, creating a harmonious balance that was both comforting and satisfying. However, I did notice that the crust, could have benefited from a touch more sweetness to elevate the overall experience. Nevertheless, the quality of the filling more than made up for this minor detail, and I found myself savoring each spoonful. We definitely recommend a visit.

  • Our Favorite Book and Physical Media Store

Our favorite store for used books, used DVD and Blu-ray, used games, used musical instruments, and more is 2nd & Charles. This unique retail chain specializes in a diverse range of secondhand items that cater to a variety of interests, making it a treasure trove for those who appreciate the charm of pre-owned goods. And yes, you can sell and trade some of your items too. You might not have heard of them, as they are not as widely recognized as some larger retail chains. The stores are huge and you could easily spend a couple of hours here. If you have kids, they are going to love the place as there are so many things to look at and see. However, they have built a loyal following among enthusiasts of all things literary, cinematic, and musical. 2nd & Charles stretches from Colorado to Maryland, featuring locations that are strategically placed to serve communities that value quality used items. Although they do not have many stores compared to some larger chains, each location offers used products that reflect peoples tastes and preferences. If you happen to see one, we highly recommend checking them out for an enjoyable shopping experience filled with the thrill of discovering hidden gems and unique finds. We hope they build more!

  • After Eating at Jollibee, Our Stomach Felt Jolly

Ever heard of Jollibee? Jollibee is a tasty Filipino multinational chain that has sporadic locations across the U.S. According to their website, they have 81 locations open and coming soon. One thing we truly enjoy about Jollibee is the remarkable variety and uniqueness of its menu offerings. Unlike many fast food chains that typically focus on burgers, fries, and soft drinks, Jollibee stands out by providing a diverse selection of dishes that reflect a fusion of flavors and culinary traditions. For instance, it’s hard to think of any fast food joint where you can find a delightful plate of spaghetti topped with chopped hot dogs and fried chicken. And yes, you can get burgers there too. We had their spaghetti and fried chicken. The spaghetti had a delicious sweet sauce taste which we enjoyed. It’s hard to think of any fast food establishment where you can find a delightful plate of spaghetti topped with chopped hot dogs. This distinctive combination, paired with a rich, sweet sauce, creates a taste experience that is both familiar and exciting for everyone. The fried chicken was crispy and the breading tasted good, though it could have used some additional spice. The coleslaw was tasty, crispy, and chilled. A typical meal consisting of just two pieces of their signature fried chicken joy paired with a small bowl of spaghetti can set a diner back nearly $15.00. This price point raises eyebrows, particularly when one considers the relatively low cost of the ingredients involved in preparing these items. Many customers might find it hard to justify the price when they reflect on the minimal cost of the components that make up the meal. This perception of value—or lack thereof—can lead to disappointment among patrons who expect more substantial portions for the amount they are paying. The Peach Mango pie was absolutely delicious, a true delight for the senses. The combination of juicy peaches and sweet, tropical mangoes created a perfect balance of flavors that tantalized the taste buds. Each bite offered a burst of savory sweetness, harmonizing beautifully with the natural tartness of the fruits. The crust was nothing short of exceptional; it was flaky and golden brown, providing a satisfying crunch that contrasted wonderfully with the soft, luscious filling. We highly recommend that you try Jollibee, a fast food chain that offers a truly unique and delightful dining experience, one that is sure to leave you feeling jolly and satisfied. Jollibee stands out not only for its delicious menu items but also for its vibrant atmosphere and friendly service, which together create an inviting environment for families, friends, and individuals alike. Jollibee will leave you feeling jolly and fulfilled, with a little pain in the wallet. Click here for Jollibee locations .

  • 2025 Review of Cracker Barrel's Turkey & Dressing Thanksgiving Meal

Homestyle Turkey & Dressing Meal (RoadTour.Net Photo) Here's our review of the Homestyle Turkey & Dressing Meal that Cracker Barrel dished out this Thanksgiving day. Well, the good news is that it's edible. For those who find themselves in a rush or simply do not have the time to engage in the often time-consuming process of cooking, this meal presents a viable option. It’s convenient and caters to individuals seeking a quick solution to their dining needs. Upon tasting the turkey, I can confidently say they didn’t screw it up. The flavor was satisfactory, and the meat was somewhat moist, which is always a positive attribute for turkey, as it can often be dry and unappetizing if not prepared correctly. However, it is worth noting that they did not provide us with any extra gravy, which could have enhanced the overall experience of the turkey. Interestingly, I observed the waitress retrieve our to-go order from a heating cabinet. This made me ponder the efficiency of the service, especially since we stood waiting for our food for a full 15 minutes. If the food was readily available in the cabinet, it raises the question of why we had to wait at all. It seems like a missed opportunity for better service and quicker turnaround times for customers who are in a hurry. As for the sweet potato casserole, it left much to be desired. It was not sweet enough for my liking, and I found myself disliking the unexpected crunch of the nuts mixed in. When I think of sweet potato casserole, I envision a delightful blend of flavors dominated by cinnamon and a hint of marshmallow sweetness. Unfortunately, this dish did not meet those expectations, which was quite disappointing. The dressing, too, was lacking in flavor. The dressing was just a scoop of mush to us. It came across as very bland, which is unfortunate given that dressing can be such a flavorful component of a meal when prepared with the right spices and herbs. It certainly needed more seasoning or perhaps a touch of something extra to elevate its taste profile. On a more positive note, the green beans were a pleasant surprise. They had a nice flavor, which I suspect was enhanced by the addition of salt pork or some similar seasoning. The taste was quite enjoyable and stood out as one of the better elements of the meal. The cornbread was typical southern Cracker Barrel cornbread, which was not sweet, but still was a good balance to the meal. I never understood people who liked cornbread that was sweet like cake. If you want cake, get cake. The dessert, pumpkin pie, was actually the second best tasting thing next to the turkey, which had taken center stage as the star of the meal. The pumpkin pie, with its rich, creamy but firm filling made from pureed pumpkin, was a delightful complement to the overall meal. The sweetness of the pie was balanced beautifully with a medley of warm spices, including cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, which danced on the palate and evoked the comforting essence of fall. Cracker Barrel Pumpkin Pie (RoadTour.Net Photo) The price for the meal was set at $17.49, which, upon reflection, seems somewhat steep considering the quality and overall experience we received. In my opinion, a more appropriate price point for what was presented would have been around $15.49. This adjustment would not only align better with the expectations of diners but also reflect the value of the ingredients and preparation that went into the meal. While the meal was, at the very least, edible and fulfilled its basic purpose of providing sustenance, it left much to be desired in terms of flavor and seasoning. The dish had the potential to be a delightful culinary experience, yet it fell short in delivering a robust and memorable taste. Enhancing the seasoning could transform the meal from merely acceptable to truly enjoyable, providing a richer and more satisfying experience for the palate. I sincerely hope that the Cracker Barrel takes this feedback into consideration and makes further improvements to the meal, as it could greatly benefit from a more thoughtful approach to flavor development and ingredient balance. By doing so, they would not only elevate the dining experience but also justify the price point they have set for it. In saying all that, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to Cracker Barrel and its dedicated employees for their commitment to serving the community on Thanksgiving Day. It is truly commendable that, while many people are enjoying the warmth and comfort of their homes surrounded by loved ones, the staff at Cracker Barrel has chosen to be on duty, providing meals and a welcoming atmosphere for those who may not have the opportunity to celebrate the holiday in a traditional manner. Their willingness to sacrifice personal time with family and friends demonstrates a remarkable level of dedication and service to others. It is this spirit of generosity and selflessness that not only enhances the dining experience but also fosters a sense of community during a time that is meant for togetherness. The hard work and effort put forth by each employee, from the cooks preparing delicious meals to the servers ensuring that every guest feels valued and cared for, do not go unnoticed. Thank you once again to Cracker Barrel and its employees for embodying the true meaning of hospitality and for making Thanksgiving a special occasion for many who walk through your doors.
