- Tornadic Storm Outbreak of April 17, 2026
The Road Tour Storm Chasers team was out and about on Friday, April 17, 2026, ready to document and analyze the dynamic weather conditions that unfolded across northern Illinois and Wisconsin. There were tornadoes seen in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa. Our storm chase journey started in the vicinity of Dubuque, Iowa, a region often characterized by its unpredictable spring weather patterns. As we approached the area, the sky darkened ominously, signaling the arrival of a powerful storm system that had been brewing throughout the day. As the storm approached, we were suddenly engulfed in a barrage of marble-sized hail, which pelted Starscream 1 (storm chase vehicle) with a relentless force. We stopped at Tapley Woods State Natural Area Parking Lot to wait out the hail storm as we almost got into an accident sliding on the road. Hail on the Ground at Tapley Woods - Photo: © RoadTour.Net We spotted legendary storm chaser Reed Timmer on the road in the Dominator 3 while in the Galena, Illinois area. Reed Timmer, known for his fearless pursuit of severe weather phenomena, has gained a reputation as one of the most dedicated and skilled storm chasers in the field. The Dominator 3, his state-of-the-art storm chasing vehicle, is equipped with advanced technology designed to withstand extreme weather conditions and gather crucial data during tornadoes and severe storms. Dominator 3 seen in Galena, Illinois - Photo: © RoadTour.Net The sound was deafening, resembling a thousand tiny drumbeats striking the metal surface. We thought our windshield was going to crack. The rain poured down in torrents, creating rivers on the roads and flooding low-lying areas. After the storm passed, we headed towards Beloit, Wisconsin. Shelf Cloud near Janesville, Wisconsin - Photo: © RoadTour.Net When we arrived near Beloit, we were again hit with a barrage of marble-sized hail that pelted our vehicle with a relentless intensity. As we drove, we couldn't help but notice the dramatic transformation of the sky ahead. A shelf cloud loomed ominously in the distance, its dark, menacing shape spinning slowly, a clear indicator of the severe weather brewing just beyond our reach. We stopped our vehicle and looked up to see the sky spinning. Suddenly, our eyes were drawn to a quick funnel cloud dropped. It was a breathtaking yet terrifying sight, a reminder of nature's raw power and unpredictability. Then the funnel lifted back up quickly. We are unsure if the funnel actually touched the ground to make a tornado due to the trees blocking our line of sight. This was the 2nd funnel cloud we saw within 30 minutes. Funnel Cloud Seen near Janesville, Wisconsin - Photo: © RoadTour.Net As the large shelf cloud advanced toward us, the winds began to pick up significantly. The gusts were fierce and unrelenting, whipping through the trees with such ferocity that branches snapped like twigs. We watched in awe and concern as trees were uprooted and sent crashing to the ground, their trunks splintering under the pressure of the wind. Driving became increasingly challenging as the power of the winds intensified. Roads were blocked at two roads where we felt a bit trapped as the remaining two locations were problematic due to the storms path. Road blocked near Janesville, Wisconsin - Photo: © RoadTour.Net We headed towards Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the storm track ominously followed us as the storms were moving east as well, casting a shadow over our journey. As we approached the city, dark clouds began to gather, swirling ominously in the sky. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as we could see flashes of lightning illuminating the horizon, creating a stark contrast against the menacing gray backdrop. As we neared Milwaukee, the rain showed no signs of letting up. Lightning Strike on I-43 North - Photo: © RoadTour.Net The rain was unrelenting, pouring down in sheets that obscured visibility and created a sense of foreboding in the atmosphere. Many of the tornadoes that emerged during this tumultuous weather were rain-wrapped, making them particularly dangerous and difficult to detect. One notable example was the Lena tornado, which struck the small town of Lena, Illinois. This tornado, shrouded in the dense curtain of rain, was nearly invisible until it was right upon the unsuspecting residents. Heavy Rain on I-94 Tri-State Tollway with sheet lightning brightning the sky - Photo: © RoadTour.Net We encountered numerous tornado warnings and imminent threat warnings on this trip, which was more validation how close we were to the storm cells that produced damaging tornadoes this day. According to the National Weather service as of 4/18/26 at 9:31am ET, there were 24 tornado reports for this day, which is likely to go up as ,more information is gathered. - New Ohio Buc-ee’s Breaks Buc-ee's Company Opening Day Records
Ohio's first Buc-ee's was, of course, a highly anticipated destination that caught the attention of RoadTour.Net right after it opened its doors to the public. The excitement surrounding this opening was palpable, and the location quickly became a bustling hub of activity. We visited the location. We had not encountered anything quite like this at the various Buc-ee's locations we've visited across states from Florida to Texas. See photo below. They actually should have had people directing traffic. It was a little unorganized and chaotic. Outside Huber Heights, OH Buc-ee's Seen from Highway - Photo: © RoadTour.Net Each Buc-ee's has its unique charm and character, but this particular station seemed to have a different level of energy and enthusiasm from its customers. This new 24 hour mega gas station located at 8000 OH-235, Huber Heights, OH 45424 is reported to have pulled in $1 million dollars in sales on it's first business day, which opened at 6:00am on April 6, 2026. On Facebook, the Huber Heights Mayor Jeff Gore said the opening was record breaking. "What happened opening day was crazy though. Buc-ee’s has told us that the grand opening day numbers were better than any store they had ever opened on day 1! Buc-ee’s sales volume was over $1,000,000 on opening day." Gore wrote on a Facebook post . According to the mayor's post, it is the northernmost Buc-ee's. It is not. It is the 2nd northernmost location with their Colorado location at 5201 Nugget Rd, Berthoud, CO 80513 in a higher latitude. Outside Huber Heights, OH Buc-ee's - Photo: © RoadTour.Net While this Buc-ee's location is impressive, it should be noted that it is not the largest of the chain, which is known for its expansive sites. It boasts approximately 108 gas pumps, which is certainly a substantial number, yet some of the more prominent Buc-ee's locations can feature up to 120 gas pumps, catering to an even larger volume of travelers. This means that while the gas station is equipped to handle a significant number of vehicles, it is slightly smaller than the largest Buc-ee's outlets found in other states. However, what sets this location apart is its store footprint, which is notably larger than those of the Buc-ee's that have opened in recent years. Despite the spaciousness of the store layout, the sheer number of visitors can make it feel quite crowded at times. This store opened up at the right time before summer hits. This allows the employees to get use to their jobs. There was no neraby location for them to train at, so most of them learned their job at this specific location. There is no preparation that can help you with such a huge volume of customers. Buc-ee's plans on opening more locations across the U.S., with plans for another location in Mansfield, Ohio, off the I-71 corridor between Columbus and Cleveland. Buc-ee's hold the world record in largest convenience store. The Luling, TX store is the largest convenience store in the world at 75,593 square feet.
- The National September 11 Memorial & Museum
After the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York City, there was an overwhelming amount of discussion and debate regarding the future of the area that had been so tragically affected. The destruction of the Twin Towers not only left a physical void in the skyline of Manhattan but also created a deep emotional void in the hearts of many. In the aftermath, some voices in the community advocated for the complete reconstruction of the iconic twin towers, believing that rebuilding would symbolize resilience and the indomitable spirit of New York City. Others, however, felt that a memorial should take precedence, serving as a solemn reminder of the lives lost and the impact of the attacks on individuals, families, and the nation as a whole. As discussions progressed, a consensus emerged that aimed to honor both perspectives. This led to the establishment of The National September 11 Memorial & Museum, a project that took many years of planning, design, and construction. The memorial pools were thoughtfully designed to occupy the footprints of the original Twin Towers, creating a poignant and reflective space that evokes the memory of the buildings that once stood there. These pools, which are the largest man-made waterfalls in North America, cascade into a void, symbolizing the absence left by the towers and the lives lost. Surrounding the memorial pools, the names of 2,983 victims are meticulously inscribed on 152 bronze parapets, ensuring that each individual is remembered and honored. This act of inscribing names serves as a powerful reminder of the human cost of that fateful day, personalizing the tragedy and allowing visitors to connect with the stories of those who were lost. The area has been transformed into a beautiful and serene space where people can come to reflect, grieve, and pay their respects. The design of the memorial and museum integrates elements of nature, with the surrounding trees providing a sense of tranquility amidst the bustling city. The architectural choices were made to create an atmosphere conducive to reflection and remembrance, allowing visitors to engage with the site in a meaningful way. The museum, located beneath the memorial, offers a comprehensive narrative of the events of September 11, including artifacts, personal stories, and multimedia displays that educate visitors about the significance of that day and its aftermath. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum stands not only as a tribute to those who lost their lives but also as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It has become a place of pilgrimage for many, drawing visitors from around the world who seek to understand the impact of the events that unfolded on that day. The memorial has thus become an integral part of New York City's landscape, a beautiful area that fosters a sense of community and remembrance, ensuring that the legacy of the victims and the lessons learned from that tragic day will never be forgotten. If you are in New York City, you must visit this place. Address: 180 Greenwich Street, New York City, NY, 10007
- The Sheetz vs. Wawa Battle Heats Up: Sheetz Heads to Indiana
Announced on April 7, 2026, Sheetz, the popular convenience store and gas station chain, has unveiled ambitious strategy to expand its footprint into Indiana, with a particular focus on establishing its first locations in the Indianapolis metro area. The company has set an impressive goal of opening 100 new locations in Indiana over the next decade, signaling its commitment to becoming a significant player in the region's convenience retail market. This strategic move comes on the heels of Wawa's entry into Indiana in 2025, which has already begun to reshape the competitive landscape in the Midwest. The rivalry between these two convenience giants is becoming increasingly evident as they vie for dominance in this lucrative market. Sheetz's recent opening of a location in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, strategically positioned directly across the street from an existing Wawa, has sparked what Road Tour describes as a friendly gas station war. It use to be that Sheetz has Western PA, while Wawa had Eastern PA. That dividing line seemed to have disappeared. This competitive spirit not only highlights the brand loyalty each company has cultivated over the years but also reflects their desire to attract a diverse customer base looking for quality service, food options, and fuel. Exactly which towns and cities in Indiana are getting a Sheetz has not been announced, but we would bet that along with Indianapolis itself, the largest suburbs around the city will see a location or two or three. That would only be logical. That is what Wawa has been doing, except we haven't seen a Wawa in the inner city of Indianapolis yet. An Ohio Sheetz Location - Photo: © RoadTour.Net Both Sheetz and Wawa have consistently ranked highly on the Road Tour 10 rankings , which evaluates gas station brands based on customer satisfaction, product offerings, and overall experience. Their strong positions in these rankings underscore their commitment to excellence and innovation in the convenience store sector. As they continue to expand and enhance their services, the competition is likely to intensify, benefiting consumers in Indiana and beyond as they enjoy a wider array of choices and improved services. With such dynamic developments unfolding, the next few years promise to be an exciting time for gas station enthusiasts and convenience store shoppers alike. We wish them both the best as they head into a new frontier. Wawa Under Construction in Indiana in March 2026 - Photo: © RoadTour.Net
- Wayback Burgers Review (2026)
We made an unplanned stop by Wayback Burgers. This growing burger chain, known for its commitment to quality and flavor, first opened its doors in 1991 in Newark, Delaware. Since its inception, Wayback Burgers has experienced significant growth and expansion, now boasting over 100 locations across the United States. The brand has built a reputation for serving up delicious, made-to-order burgers that are crafted with fresh ingredients and a variety of toppings, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences. Outside an Indiana Wayback Burgers Location - Photo: © RoadTour.Net Our previous visits to Wayback Burgers have left a good lasting impression. Interestingly, we remember spotting one of their locations inside a Walmart years ago. As we stepped into a Midwest Wayback Burgers location during our recent stop, we were greeted by the familiar, inviting ambiance. The person at the register was very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant looked clean. The nice part was there were no other customers at the time! Interior of a Wayback Burgers Location - Photo: © RoadTour.Net We recently had the opportunity to try the Sweet and Spicy Melt, and it was an experience that truly stood out to us. The flavor profile of this melt brought back memories of the beloved Whataburger Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger, though it was notable that this particular burger did not include bacon. Instead, the Sweet and Spicy melt offered a unique twist that made it equally satisfying in its own right. One of the standout components of the melt was the pineapple jalapeno jam, which we found to be surprisingly delicious. The jam added a delightful layer of complexity to the sandwich, as the sweetness of the pineapple perfectly complemented the spicy kick from the jalapenos. We loved the buttery toasted bun. This unexpected combination created a harmonious blend that enhanced the overall flavor experience. Sweet and Spicy Melt - Photo: © RoadTour.Net Wayback Burgers reminds me of Five Guys, probably because of its similar price point, which tends to be on the higher end of the fast-casual dining spectrum. In fact, during our recent visit, the total for one burger meal, which included a burger, fries, and a drink, amounted to over $15.00 after tax. So it won't be going often because of the price. In saying that, we do recommend that you still visit Wayback Burgers because of the food and customer service. Find a Wayback Burgers location near you here at their official website .
- Wawa Burritos Lack Taste
Wawa Chicken Burrito - Photo: © RoadTour.Net Recently, we made the decision to indulge in a burrito from Wawa, a popular convenience store known for its extensive menu and made-to-order food options. After perusing the selection, we opted for a burrito filled with chicken, rice, and black beans, anticipating a delicious and satisfying meal. However, our experience was less than stellar. Upon taking our first bites, we were met with a distinct lack of flavor that left us feeling disappointed. The chicken, which we expected to be seasoned and flavorful, came across as remarkably bland. It was almost as if it had been cooked without any spices or marinade, leaving it devoid of the savory taste that one typically associates with well-prepared chicken. Furthermore, while we understand that rice is often a neutral component of a burrito, we had hoped that the beans would provide a contrasting flavor profile. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The beans, too, fell flat and lacked the rich, earthy taste that can elevate a burrito to something truly enjoyable. Instead of complementing the other ingredients, they seemed to contribute to the overall blandness of the dish. We got a breakfast burrito a couple months back, it also tasted bland. Wawa Receipt - Photo: © RoadTour.Net The price of the burrito was set at $7.59 before tax, a figure that places it in a comparable range to the price point of a chicken burrito from Chipotle, which is known for its customizable options and fresh ingredients. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes evident that Wawa's burrito is smaller in size compared to its Chipotle counterpart, which typically offers a more generous portion that can be quite filling. This size discrepancy raises questions about the value proposition of Wawa's offering. Furthermore, it is apparent that Wawa did not price their burrito appropriately, especially considering the lack of flavor and overall appeal that characterizes their product. This pricing strategy appears to be misguided. So our consensus is their burritos are bland and overpriced. Save your money.
- The Kankakee Illinois Supercell Tornadic Storm
We were in Kankakee, Illinois on March 10, 2026, a charming city located in the northeastern part of the state, prior to the storm that was forecasted to sweep through the region. This city, known for its scenic views and vibrant community, served as our base for what was anticipated to be an exciting day of storm chasing. To document our journey, we have created a road tour video that captures the essence of our experience in Kankakee. You can view that video here , where we showcase not only the landscape but also the atmosphere leading up to the storm. As the day unfolded, we kept a close watch on the weather patterns and radar updates, which indicated a significant storm system developing. However, as fate would have it, we ended up missing the storm entirely, as our position was too far west of the storm's trajectory. This turn of events was somewhat disappointing, as we had hoped to witness the raw power of nature firsthand. Nonetheless, the experience was not without its rewards. While we may have missed the storm itself, we were fortunate enough to capture a stunning rainbow on the northwest side of the supercell as it advanced towards Kankakee, Illinois. This vibrant arc of colors emerged in the sky, a beautiful contrast to the dark clouds associated with the approaching storm, serving as a reminder of the beauty that can accompany tumultuous weather. The sight of the rainbow was a moment of joy amidst the anticipation of the storm, drawing our attention and lifting our spirits. See photo below. The Kankakee tornadic supercell not only dropped a tornado, but produced large hail about 5 inches in diameter, which damaged house roofs and cars. In Indiana later that evening, we caught up with that same supercell that had previously produced a tornado in Kankakee. As we approached the storm, the atmosphere felt charged with energy, a palpable tension that hinted at the power of the weather system we were about to encounter. The sky was an ominous. We drove through very torrential rain and lightning, the kind that reduced visibility to mere feet, making it feel as though we were navigating through a dense fog rather than a downpour. The windshield wipers struggled to keep pace, swishing back and forth in a frantic attempt to clear the sheets of water cascading down. Cars had their flashers on, creating a chaotic symphony of yellow and red lights that flickered in the gloom, as drivers sought to navigate the treacherous conditions. Many vehicles, overwhelmed by the intensity of the rain and the fear of what lay ahead, were pulling off to the shoulder of the road. Follow Road Tour on X (formerly Twitter) and Threads to get the latest storm chasing videos and photos as we plan to storm chase this entire Spring of 2026.

Having visited various branches in different states over the years, we were eager to see if their famous breakfast offerings still lived up to our fond memories and expectations. The best way to describe The Original Pancake House is a classic American diner with a modern flair that seamlessly blends nostalgic charm with contemporary dining experiences. This beloved establishment evokes feelings of warmth and familiarity, reminiscent of the traditional diners that have been a staple in American culture for decades. The ambiance is further enhanced by the friendly and attentive staff. Our server took good care of us. The eggs, corned beef hash, and potatoes were cooked to perfection, creating a harmonious blend of flavors and textures that delighted the palate. The potatoes, diced into small cubes and fried until golden brown, were seasoned just right, adding a delightful crunch that paired beautifully with the softness of the eggs and the savory notes of the hash. Additionally, the strawberry-topped waffle was a delightful treat that added a sweet touch to the meal. The waffle itself was light and fluffy, with a perfectly crisp exterior that gave way to a tender inside. We highly recommend that you make a visit to The Original Pancake House, a beloved establishment renowned for serving a classic American breakfast that is sure to delight your taste buds and start your day off right.
- Chipotle's Arrogance
We're again talking about 'slop bowl' restaurant chain Chipotle, and the topic continues to evoke our strong feelings and opinions. If you have read our previous article on the 'slop bowl' chain, you are already aware that we have serious problems with Chipotle. Our criticisms are not unfounded; they stem from a variety of experiences and observations that paint a troubling picture of this popular fast-casual dining option. From the consistently not having ingredients ready, to bad customer service, to cleanliness of their restaurants, there is no mistaking that we find Chipotle to be an abomination in the quick service restaurant industry. If you want to know what Chipotle thinks of you, look no further than the CEO's own words. We feel this is vindication to what we said in our previous article about Chipotle. They don't care about their customers. Outside a Mississippi Chipotle Location What's concerning is an audio clip posted on X account @WallStreetApes where Scott Boatwright, CEO of Chipotle said on an earning's call “We learned that 60% of our core users are over $100,000 a year in income, in average household income. That gives us confidence that we can lean into that group in a more meaningful way to really drive meaningful transaction performance in the year”. These executives often resort to using complex mumbo jumbo jargon that can obscure the actual meaning of their statements, making it difficult for the average consumer to grasp the underlying message. In plain speak, what they are really communicating is that Chipotle has the potential to raise its prices, effectively capitalizing on the financial capabilities of its customers. Chipotle wants to raise their average transaction amount. As with all restaurants, a key metric is the average transaction dollar amount. This raises an important question about the company's strategic direction: Does Chipotle aspire to position itself as the Ruth's Chris Steakhouse of the quick service restaurant industry? If so, this could imply a significant shift in their business model, catering primarily to a demographic of high-income individuals who can afford to dine at premium establishments. Such a transformation could lead to a brand identity that emphasizes exclusivity and high-quality ingredients, akin to what Ruth's Chris represents in the fine dining sector. However, this approach might alienate the core customer base that has traditionally frequented Chipotle for its affordability and accessibility. The company would need to carefully consider the implications of this potential price increases on customer loyalty and market share, as consumers may seek alternatives if they perceive the brand as becoming too expensive. Even consumers who make more than $100,000 a year think their food is getting to expensive. Do they not survey their customers? If they do, they are not asking about pricing or they don't care perhaps? We will go with they don't care based on what we see. Their actions. Of course, companies need to maximize revenues for their shareholders, and we fully understand the fundamental importance of profitability in the business world. This drive for financial success is a central tenet of business operations, as it ensures sustainability and growth. However, when we specifically examine Chipotle's approach to pricing and menu offerings, it raises some critical concerns. Their prices have already reached an absurd level based on what they are serving. It's slop, and we don't use that term lightly. We have also observed a noticeable lack of effort on their part to maintain a balanced and reasonable pricing structure across their menu items. For instance, the cost of a side of chips and guacamole has reached a point where it is nearly equivalent to the price of an entire meal at a fast-food chain like Burger King. This stark comparison not only highlights the steep pricing strategy employed by Chipotle but also raises questions about the value proposition they offer to their customers. Furthermore, it appears that Chipotle's focus has shifted predominantly towards maximizing profits rather than fostering a positive and memorable customer experience. This shift in priorities can be detrimental to long-term brand loyalty and customer satisfaction. The consistent reports of negative experiences from customers only serve to reinforce this perception. Whether it’s issues related to order accuracy, service speed, or food quality, the recurring nature of these complaints suggests that customer care may not be at the forefront of Chipotle’s operational strategy. In an industry where consumer preferences are continually evolving, and where the competition is fierce. This includes ensuring that their pricing reflects the quality and value of the food being offered, as well as addressing any service shortcomings that could detract from a customer’s visit. Ultimately, while the need to generate revenue is undeniable, neglecting the customer experience can lead to a decline in customer loyalty and a tarnished brand reputation, which could ultimately undermine the very profits that companies strive to achieve. Outside a Indiana Chipotle Location from an earlier article. Chipotle has formidable competition that could potentially knock it off its perch as a leader in the 'slop bowl' field. Among these competitors are well-known brands such as Qdoba and Baja Fresh, both of which have carved out their own niches in the market. These companies have the opportunity to capitalize on any missteps or strategic errors made by Chipotle, particularly in areas such as customer service, menu innovation, and operational efficiency. Brands like Qdoba and Baja Fresh have the potential to exploit any weaknesses in Chipotle's strategy and capture market share by offering compelling alternatives that resonate with today's consumers. Outside a Pennsylvania Chipotle Location The arrogance of Chipotle, to presume that customers will remain loyal to Chipotle simply because they earn over $100,000 a year is frankly disturbing and reveals a troubling disconnect from the realities of consumer behavior. This assumption not only undermines the diverse demographic that frequents the restaurant but also suggests a narrow-minded view of customer loyalty that is predicated solely on financial status. It is essential to recognize that the motivations for dining out extend far beyond mere income levels; factors such as quality of food, customer service, brand values, and overall dining experience play a crucial role in attracting and retaining customers. Moreover, it is increasingly evident that Chipotle's corporate culture is heavily focused on profit margins and financial performance, often at the expense of genuine customer engagement and community connection. A restaurant's success is not solely determined by its ability to attract affluent customers but also by its ability to create a welcoming atmosphere for all, where every guest feels appreciated and valued, regardless of their income level. The notion that Chipotle can rely solely on the financial status of its customers to sustain its business is not only shortsighted but also indicative of a deeper issue within the company's operational philosophy. This approach suggests a fundamental misunderstanding of the broader market dynamics and consumer behavior that are essential for long-term success in the highly competitive food service industry. Such a mentality, which fails to recognize the diverse motivations and values of consumers, deserves to go out of business.
