Most Hated Brands & Companies
in the U.S.
AVOID THEM.
CONSUMERS HAVE THE POWER.
This is our list of brands and companies that we believe fall short—whether due to poor business practices, low-quality products or services, unethical behavior, or consistently negative customer and user experiences. These are organizations that, based on our actual interactions or reported interactions, have not earned trust or support. We absolutely detest some these companies with a passion. Some of them should just go out of business. The world would be better off.
Whenever possible, we recommend avoiding these companies and considering alternatives that demonstrate better values, higher quality, and more responsible practices.
By making more informed choices as consumers, we can support businesses that align with our standards and expectations. Consumers have the power.
Companies are not listed in any specific order. For a company to be removed from the list, they have to demonstrate to us they can do a better job. We have a memory like an elephant. If you're on the list, you deserve to be on the list. You suck!
Taco Bell
Industry: Fast Food Restaurant Chain
MULTIPLE LOCATIONS/STATES
Major Issues: Bad Food Quality, Poor Customer Service
Note: An absolute abysmal customer service. It's like their employees simply do not care. And the food quality is terrible. Cold food/possible improper holding temps, food missing ingredients. Taco Bell has grown too big for it's own good.
Speedway
Industry: Gas Station Chain
MULTIPLE LOCATIONS/STATES
Major Issues: Cleanliness, Poor Customer Service
Note: The level of cleanliness in their stores is an abomination to retail, compounded with unprofessionally dressed employees with an "I don't care" attitude. This place should go out of business. Just let the other gas station chains take your business. Speedway was bought by 7-Eleven, yet 7-Eleven has done little to make it better other than offering it's Slurpees at their store. The worst gas station chain in existence. Read our article here.
Uber
Industry: Rideshare
Major Issues: Driver Pay, Customer Service, Problem Resolution
Note: The way Uber treats it's drivers is not only shocking, but disturbing. In the past drivers were able to call Uber Support for issues, but are now forced into chat/text communications. Shows how much they care, right? Driver pay has been steadily dropping. Drivers often have to work an hour or more just to pay for the gas they put into their car. Some drivers report making less than 55% of the fare, making it difficult for them to maintain good income and maintain their vehicles. Some Uber trips are having drivers make little to no profit, yet Uber uses acceptance rate as a metric when drivers decline poorly paid trips. Uber has no shame or situational awareness... or could be doing it on purpose. Downright evil if you ask us either way. A true corporate villian.
Wendy's
Industry: Fast Food Restaurant Chain
MULTIPLE LOCATIONS/STATES
Major Issues: Customer Service, Product Quality, Speed of Service
Note: Has become a shadow of what it once was. Their customer service is terrible, we have observed employees yelling at each other, appearing to be under the influence, and have dealt with excessive wait times. We won't get started on how we feel the food quality has fallen. Read our article here.
Shell
Industry: Gas Station Chain
Major Issues: Customer Service, Problem Resolution
Note: Dirty gas stations and poor customer service seem to be the norm.
Take 5 Oil Change
Industry: Auto Service
Major Issues: Customer Service, Service Issues, Problem Resolution
Note: They broke the plastic tip of our oil dip stick, yet to resolve the issue after contacting their corporate office. The location denied breaking the dipstick, but they were the only ones to have had access to it. We had to contact the dealership to replace the dipstick, which was over $50 for a simple metal rod. We hate this place with a passion.
Walmart
Industry: Retail Store
MULTIPLE LOCATIONS/STATES
Major Issues: Driver Pay, Customer Service, Cleanliness
Note: Had a legitimate issue and was told by management that they could not help "It's our company policy". That told us how cold this company has become. It wasn't fair how the issue was not resolved. Left a really bad taste in our mouth. Their restrooms are often disgusting as well, employees are generally not as friendly as they could be.
McDonald's
Industry: Fast Food Restaurant
MULTIPLE LOCATIONS/STATES
Major Issues: Driver Pay, Customer Service, Problem Resolution, Overpriced
Note: We hate this place. The employees are not friendly, the food is substandard, and the portions have shrunk. Read our article here.
Chipotle
Industry: Fast Food Restaurant
MULTIPLE LOCATIONS/STATES
Major Issues: Customer Service, Cleanliness, Overpriced
Note: Multiple customer service issues and cleanliness issues. See our article here.
AT&T
Industry: Telecommunications
Major Issues: Driver Pay, Customer Service, Problem Resolution, Overpriced
Note: Overpriced, overpriced, and overpriced cellular service. Not to mention, did not fix a home internet issue after 2 tech visits, and the tech recommended we go to Comcast. That should tell you everything. We've found that their cellular service hasn't been all too good. Not to mention, they had a data breach, and when you get Active Armor to help against spam calls etc., they raise the price on you...over 30%.
Hotwire.com/Expedia
Industry: Online Travel Booking
Major Issues: Customer Service, Problem Resolution, Booking Operations
Note: Pending charge for unconfirmed hotel booking, not releasing the hold. They blame the bank, but merchants can release authorization holds on credit cards. They choose not to do it. Poor customer service in resolving the issue. Holding funds for no service no matter how long is akin to theft. Also, we have SEVERAL TIMES gotten Hot Rate hotels that were under remodel/construction. Not pleasant experiences.
